15 months before
Register for GRE, GMAT, or LSAT. Book IELTS or TOEFL exam. Begin studying with at least 3 months of prep.
12 months before
Request academic transcripts. Identify referees and approach them formally. Start scholarship research.
9 months before
Draft your Statement of Purpose. Begin writing supplemental essays. Collect reference letters.
6 months before
Submit early decision / early action applications. Apply for scholarships with earlier deadlines.
3 months before
Submit remaining applications. Prepare for potential interviews. Apply for financial aid/scholarships.
After acceptance
Accept offer, apply for student visa, arrange housing and travel. Complete pre-departure requirements.

What Every Application Needs

📄 Statement of Purpose (SOP)

Your most important document. A 1–2 page essay that tells your academic story: your background, why this program, your research interests, and career goals.

📬 Recommendation Letters

Typically 2–3 letters from professors and/or employers. Request these at least 8 weeks before deadline and provide your referees with your SOP, CV and scholarship brief.

📊 Standardised Tests

    GRE General — required by most US graduate programs. Aim for 320+ total for competitive programs.

    GMAT — required for MBA programs. Target 680+ for top schools.
  • I
    IELTS / TOEFL — English proficiency. Minimum IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 90 for most programs.
🗂️ Academic Transcripts

Official transcripts from every institution attended. For non-English transcripts, certified translations are required. Some US universities require WES credential evaluation.

Tip: Request official transcripts at least 3 months before your application deadline — processing can take 4–6 weeks.
STUDENT VISAGetting Your Visa After Acceptance
🇬🇧 UK — Student Route Visa
Apply online via UK Visas & Immigration. Requires CAS number from your university, ATAS clearance for some subjects, tuberculosis test, and proof of English. Apply 3 months before start date.
🇺🇸 USA — F-1 Student Visa
Obtain your I-20 form from your university. Pay SEVIS fee ($350). Schedule interview at US Embassy or Consulate. Bring financial proof, admission letter, and SEVIS receipt.
🇩🇪 Germany — National Visa
Apply at German Embassy/Consulate 3 months before start. Required: admission letter, proof of €11,208 in blocked account (Sperrkonto), health insurance, and biometric photos.
